Study to show thyself – Ye are saved by grace not by works

Within the Pentecostal church circles, it does seem like legalism is making a strong come back!

All that is preached from most pulpits these days are usually works centred, far removed from salvation through grace by faith that the bible teaches. We Pentecostal Christians have very loud mouths and believe we alone know the truth and all other Christian denominations are wallowing in ignorance. This superiority complex also happens within the Pentecostal churches as well with some churches believing that they are better and more in tune to the move of God’s spirit than others. I believe the bible tells us to examine ourselves first before we point out the faults of others.

How true is our claim in Pentecostalism of being the only ones that know the truth? Very, very false! Most of our actions show how ignorant we are of scriptures and our perceived knowledge has puffed us up really badly.

Nowadays, we are so driven by works that we now believe that these works is Christianity. We are famous for having daily church activities with which we use to measure people’s commitments but in a truth, these daily activities only show each individual’s commitment to his local assembly and not to God. We now believe that the more you attend these activities, the more God loves you. So now we try really hard to earn God’s love and even believe that God loves some of us more than others. This has given rise to so many other unbiblical practices, which in reality is legalism. We think that by adhering to these practices God would love us more.

I stumbled across a very excellent teaching on this subject and I believe it would bless the lives of those who read it. Click here to read it.

    Hi
I read Doug’s article on legalism. I agree that there is nothing in the works of man that can purchase salvation. Yet when I read the article, obedience has been lumped with works of man. Just believeing is a work performed by the heart and soul of man. God never forced us to believe.
    ROMANS 10
9 That if thou shalt CONFESS with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Is confession a work or would you attribute it to obedience that is contrary to any work man would do naturally without God’s influence.
    LUKE 13
3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye REPENT, ye shall all likewise perish.
Is repentance a work or obedience. Jesus declared it to be a requirement of salvation no matter what we want to call it. The only thing, man would never naturally repent. Only God’s influence would cause anyone to repent.
Of course the article says,”But the Gospel is Believe plus Nothing!”. To make absolutes like that is to challenge why any other scriptures are even relevant to the gospel or salvation.
    MARK 16
    16 He that believeth and is BAPTIZED shall be saved;
If Jesus said that baptism is in order along with believing to obtain salvation then it is not a work of man but obedience to God. How covienient it is to assure someone just by believing the fact that Jesus fulfilled all the requirements to purchase our salvation that they own it. Understanding the importance of Grace and the definition displayed in the Bible would be useless. The apostles doctrine that was give on the Day of Pentecost would be blown out of the water. Yet the Bible records that those first converts continued steadfastly in the Apostles Doctine. There was no written Gospels or letters to the churches that ministers use today to destroy what the apostles preached in the Book of Acts for salvation. The apostles had the Old Testament and a message. If you had been there on the Day of Pentecost and handled the message, how would the Bible read today. From evidence in the article there would have been no repentance and certainly no baptisms. Why do anything when it does not mean anything. I am not a Pentecostal but people who call themselves Pentecostals should at least preach the message Peter preached on that day.
    ACTS 5
29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to OBEY God rather than men.
32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that OBEY him.
You see I believe there is a form of obedience that merits some things of God but I do not attribute it my own righteousness because I would not have done anything except God said so. Read ‘REDEMPTION” on my website. Be sure to read the introduction in the parenthesis first.
